Precision Asphalt Paving under the Burlington Bridge

Perfect Finish by the Water

At the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (CCIW) in Burlington, Pavemar Paving recently wrapped up a tight-turnaround asphalt job for Bronte Construction. This was no ordinary paving task—the challenge was to repave a nearly level a section of asphalt adjacent to a new concrete drainage system, all while working under strict slope and compaction requirements.

"Like paving a pool table" is often what's said about working under these conditions. Our finished product  is...right on cue!

Tight Site, Tough Slopes, No Problem

This stretch of pavement is right next to the water, meaning it’s not just about looks—it’s about performance. Drainage, elevation, and even the smallest imperfections matter in a setting like this. With the concrete drain already poured, the paving had to tie in seamlessly to the new edge while holding its grade under tricky slope conditions.

The slope was far from ideal. To overcome this, our Pavemar crew used a multi-layer approach:

  • Base coat to bring up the grade and meets specifications

  • Level coat to fill in the low spots

  • Finish coat to create that ultra-smooth top layer

Each step had to be done with care and coordination to ensure the final result would pass inspection—and stand up to everyday use.

Precision Tools for a Precision Job

To get the surface just right, we brought in our laser level —a critical tool for fine-tuning grades and elevations across the asphalt surface. With our crew on the ground and real-time guidance from the laser system, we were able to monitor and adjust the grade as we went.

This attention to detail was key to matching the elevation of the new concrete trench drain and maintaining a consistent slope from edge to edge. The result? A flawless finish that works just as well as it looks.

Meeting Engineering Standards with Speed

One of the biggest challenges on this job was time. Bronte Construction had a tight schedule, and the engineers from Paterson Group Consulting Engineers were on-site to check for proper compaction and quality.

Pavemar delivered the full paving process—from base to final coat—in under one day, all while meeting the compaction and finish requirements set by the consulting engineers.

This kind of performance is only possible when every team member knows their role and works with precision, from the equipment operators to the finishers and quality control.

Why the Finish Matters

At first glance, a smooth piece of blacktop might not seem like a big deal—but the finish is everything in a place like CCIW. Poor drainage or uneven pavement could lead to pooling water, surface damage, or problems for vehicles and equipment.

By taking the time to build the pavement in layers and working to tight tolerances, we ensured a long-lasting, safe, and professional-grade finish. It’s this level of care that sets Pavemar apart, even on smaller patch jobs like this one.

Pavemar’s Commitment to Quality

At Pavemar Paving, we bring the same high standards to every job—big or small. Whether we’re restoring a municipal road, installing commercial driveways, or laying precise patches for government and infrastructure projects, our work is always backed by over 30 years of experience in the paving industry.

Working with Bronte Construction and Paterson Group at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters was another great example of teamwork, trust, and top-quality paving.
