When an emergency happens on our roads, fast response and quality work make all the difference.
Pavemar Paving was recently called to complete an urgent roadway restoration project for the City of Markham after a major water main break disrupted traffic at the corner of Enterprise Boulevard and University Boulevard, right in front of York University’s Markham Campus.
A burst water main can cause serious problems below the surface. After the underground pipe was repaired, the site was backfilled with sand and u-fill, but the roadway above needed professional paving attention to ensure it was safe, durable, and ready for heavy traffic again.
That’s when we were called in.
Our team handled every step of the surface restoration process—from milling to paving to finishing touches—and we completed the entire project in less than a day. This quick turnaround minimized disruption to students, staff, local businesses, and daily commuters in one of Markham’s busiest areas.
Water main breaks don’t wait for convenient times. They often happen suddenly, creating sinkholes, flooding, and unsafe road conditions. Once the underground pipe is fixed, the surface needs to be restored immediately to keep traffic moving safely.
By responding fast and working efficiently, we helped the City of Markham avoid extended lane closures and reduced delays for the surrounding community.
Every successful road repair project follows a careful process. Here’s how Pavemar brought this roadway back to life:
We started by milling the damaged asphalt around the trench area. This step removes broken or uneven pavement and prepares a smooth base for new asphalt layers. Milling also helps blend the repaired section with the surrounding road for a seamless finish.
A strong base is essential for long-lasting pavement. Our crew compacted and leveled the trench to ensure it could support both the new asphalt and the daily stress of heavy vehicle traffic. Proper preparation at this stage prevents future settling and potholes.
Next, we laid down fresh asphalt in 4 layers—two sturdy base courses in the trench followed by a full base coat and a smooth top course. This method ensures strength, durability, and a finished surface that drivers won’t even realize was repaired just hours earlier.
Finally, we sealed joints and edges to prevent water infiltration and applied fresh line painting for safety and traffic flow. These finishing touches may seem small, but they make a big difference in extending the pavement’s lifespan and restoring order on the road.
This roadway restoration didn’t just affect drivers—it had a direct impact on a variety of construction and development projects in the surrounding area. Many contractors were waiting for the road to be reopened so they could continue with their own important tasks.
York University had scheduled window maintenance work that required equipment access.
New apartment developments nearby needed utilities to be run underground and a new sidewalk poured for future residents.
Ongoing city improvements in the district also relied on this corridor being clear for deliveries and construction traffic.
None of these projects could move forward until the roadway was restored. By completing the job in under a day, Pavemar not only resolved a municipal emergency but also helped keep multiple construction timelines on track. This highlights how vital reliable paving services are to the growth and development of Markham’s expanding community.

This project at York University’s Markham Campus is just one example of how Pavemar delivers under pressure. By the end of the day, what started as a broken and unsafe roadway was restored to a clean, durable surface ready for traffic.
At Pavemar, we take pride in being part of solutions that keep cities moving. Roads connect communities, businesses, and schools, and when they’re damaged, the effects ripple across the whole area.
In Markham, restoring the road outside York University’s campus meant helping students and staff return to normal routines, keeping local businesses accessible, and ensuring drivers could travel safely. That’s why we approach every municipal paving project—whether planned or emergency—with the same level of dedication. We know that quality work today means smoother, safer roads for years to come.
From emergency repairs to planned municipal paving projects, Pavemar brings decades of expertise to every job. Our proven track record across the GTA makes us the trusted choice for cities, businesses, and property managers looking for long-lasting results.
