May 10, 20242 min read

How Pavemar Paving Restored a Richmond Hill Driveway.

We recently had the opportunity to restore a residential driveway in Richmond Hill that was in dire need of repair.

The driveway had suffered from a thin asphalt application and inadequate base preparation, leading to significant cracking and sinking.

Additionally, the interlocking bricks near the garage were had sunk below grade, posing a hazard to proper installation of the new driveway.

Identifying the Issues: Cracked Asphalt and Uneven Landscaping

The first step in any successful repair is accurately identifying the underlying issues. Our team conducted a thorough assessment and found that the asphalt's original thin application and poorly excavated base were the main culprits behind the driveway's deterioration.

Adjusting Interlocking Bricks Near the Garage Entrance

Proper alignment of the interlocking bricks was necessary to ensure safety and functionality. By adjusting the bricks near the garage floor, we were able to provide a seamless look and practical finish.

While Pavemar Paving does not provide interlocking brick installation, we deemed it necessary to realign the existing interlocking bricks near the garage entrance. This ensured they met the garage floor's height, creating a level transition and enhancing the driveway's overall appearance.

The Importance of Proper Base Excavation and Asphalt Application

A well-prepared base is the backbone of any durable driveway.

This driveway was extended in width years prior, during the last repaving, without proper excavation causing a pothole and alligator cracks to form near the edge of the driveway.

The Pavemar Approach: Ensuring Durability and Aesthetics

To tackle the asphalt issues, we began by excavating the existing material and regraded to create a solid foundation.

A properly prepared base is crucial for preventing future sinking and cracking.

We then applied a robust layer of HL3 asphalt, designed to withstand the harsh Ontario weather and wear and tear from heavier vehicles.
